Happy birthday, Sir Ernest Shackleton!

Ernest Shackleton: dreamboat and debtor.

My hero: theoretically born on this day in 1874; polar explorer in the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration; tried to cross the Antarctic continent from sea to sea on the Imperal Trans-Antarctic Expedition; lost his ship, the Endurance, to pack ice; returned his comrades to safety with not a single (human) life lost.

Whatta stud. I met his great-great-great-grandniece once. She was super cool.

And now you can drink the Rare Old Highland Whisky that Shackleton drank, recovered as it was from the icy deeps, and reproduced to be sold in stores.

Now that's a success story if I've ever heard one!
